We have been good friends,
Good-by old friend,
I won't be seeing you again,
Your darkened shadow's
That have never seen the light.
Dim your light maybe,
But never your memory.
I will not forget.
You are eyeless but not blind,
Cold, but warm to the heart,
That loves you so.
Tonight, I say good-by,
For the last time.
But as I close the door,
I cannot close my mind.
Old friend I'll never forget,
The times we spent together,
The hours of silence,
The joys and the sorrows,
The victories and the defeats.
They will be forever ours.
You may be old and dark,
You may be cold and lonely,
But in your silence,
I spent many a happy day.
To me you will always be a friend.
Someday, though, I may return,
To sit once again at your desk,
To look again at your bare walls,
Filled with so many memories.
I may return, if but,
To remember.
God-by old friend, Good-by.
