BUT YET IT CAME

Why had it come so soon
When life had but begun
He had so much yet to see
But yet it came.

Why had it come so soon
He had not yet seen London
Paris, the Nile or the Amazon
But yet it came

Why had it come so soon
The journey of life had but begun
It seems so soon for it to end
But yet it came.

Why had it come so soon
It came to him as it must to all men
For never have I seen a man
Ready for the knock of death.
