Train: WDE

Wood-products Dispatch Expediter ("The Woodie")

Expedited freight from Pacific Northwest, mostly lumber and lumber by-products for So Cal and Eastern markets

Train originates in Portland Staging

The "Woodie" is not as hot as either the VSC or the SFX, but still represents expedited service in competition with the SP’s similar service down the coast line. Loads are primarily wood and wood by-products (paper, chemicals, etc.), but the WDE may be filled-out with other kinds of expedited loads or any other EB traffic.

The WDE does not do any on-layout switching, but stops in Orchard yard to drop off local (on-layout) cars and pick up "long east" cars (those bound for eastern destinations off the visible layout). The WDE completes its run in Valley staging.
